Custom Challenge Coins

Custom Challenge Coins are made from a mold using a design that you approve. The initial mold is a copper bronze base, and is generally two-sided like a standard coin with designs featured on both sides. Customs edging, 3D shapes and text, and custom packaging and display cases are just some of the ways you can make your Challenge Coin truly unique. Once the initial mold is stamped with your custom design and closely inspected for accuracy, it is fired at 450° for 12 to 15 minutes. An optional epoxy can be applied at this stage which acts as a protective coating to keep the color enamels from cracking or fading over time. Your Custom Challenge Coins are then polished, one at a time, then plated with the finish of your choice. These finishes include 18K gold, silver, and several different variations of Antiquing. Each coin is inspected to ensure superior quality before being individually packaged and delivered via FedEx Overnight Air directly to your destination.

Where did the tradition begin?

Challenge Coins started as a military custom in World War I. These coins were given to members of an American volunteer flying squadron by their Lieutenant or Commander. Legend states that one squadron member was captured by the French, but his life was spared when his medallion (Challenge Coin) was noticed by his captors. A tradition was born after WWI and each squadron member carried a challenge coin. Upon greeting another member, they had to produce their coin. If the member could not produce a coin he would buy a drink of choice for the other “winning” member. The Challenge Coins created at PinOutlet.com are of exceptional quality, and are designed to last a lifetime, to carry on the memories of those whom they represent.

Who uses challenge coins?

Although they were conceived and implemented in the military, the honored tradition of challenge coins continues today among a wide variety of groups such as:
